Communications and Operations Assistant
Job description:
We are looking for a Communications and Operations Assistant to provide support to the Kaur Foundation team across various initiatives. You will be responsible for creating and publishing content to engage with Kaur Foundation’s audiences of K-12 educators, school administrators, high school and college students, and community members. This includes compiling and distributing regular newsletters and creating and overseeing outreach communications via social media, and promoting Kaur Foundation's presence at state and national education conferences. You will help to promote the mission and work of Kaur Foundation, working with the Director of Curriculum and Education to develop an outreach strategy and engagement calendar. The goal is to strengthen the organization’s online presence and promote a consistent message across multiple platforms and audiences. The right candidate will be able to create graphics and copy aligned with existing messaging and style guidelines. Additionally, the right candidate will be able to work both independently and collaboratively with a fully remote team.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Social Media
- Create regular posts (graphics/visuals and copy) based on content calendar
- Schedule posts according to content calendar
- Create additional content as needed
- Share and repost relevant news stories as needed
- Track engagement across platforms
- Respond to comments and messages and/or refer communications to appropriate team members for follow-up
- Assist with compiling monthly educator newsletter (12/year) using content provided by the Education team
- Assist with compiling bi-monthly community newsletter (6/year) using content provided by Education team
General Operational Support
- Collect and curate current events articles related to the Sikh community, DEI education, and religious literacy education
- Copy editing support for marketing, communications, and educational materials as needed
- Assist with preparation for the National Council for Social Studies (NCSS) and State conferences, including preparing resources (printed & online), organizing conference booth/exhibit, communications before, during and after conference, awards ordering, assisting as needed at NCSS, awardees & Kaur Foundation communication, volunteer coordination communication, ordering marketing items/materials for conference, and other assistance as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Familiarity with Mailchimp, Canva, Instagram, Facebook, and Twitter
- Graphic design skills and ability to present content in a visually appealing manner consistent with existing brand guidelines, style, and message
- Ability to meet deadlines while working independently
- Strong written and oral communication skills
- Strong editing and copy writing skills
- Ability to follow written guidelines and instructions
- High attention to detail
- Available for meetings and communication during standard working hours
- Legally authorized to work in the United States
Preferred Skills and Qualifications:
- Knowledge about Sikhism, cultural and religious literacy, diversity and multicultural education, and DEI education
- Knowledge about and/or experience with K-12 education, social studies curriculum, and teacher training
- Experience with additional media platforms and formats (such as video)
