2023 INTERNS

Meet our 2023 Summer Interns

Ananya (she/her) is a rising sophomore at Wellesley College, where she is studying International Relations with a minor in Education. She was born in upstate New York but calls New Delhi, India, home. At Wellesley, Ananya is most directly involved with the Wellesley Association for South Asian Cultures, as well as with the Wellesley Community Children’s Center. Ananya is interested in education policy as a potential area of study, as well as international security; one particular area that she finds fascinating is how community-based shifts in curricula or educational practices can be used to foster change. She hopes to learn more about this through the Kaur Foundation and is also excited to focus on learning about effective curriculum development strategies for different age groups.

Outside of her academics and the work she’ll be doing with KF, one mini-project Ananya hopes to undertake this summer is teaching herself Malayalam, which is one of the languages her family speaks. She loves reading, painting, creating too many playlists for herself, and spending time with her dog.

Kareena is a rising freshman at UC Davis, where she intends to study psychology on a pre-medicine track. Kareena’s chosen academic path is explained by her deep-rooted passion for fostering understanding about the need for mental health resources, especially in educational institutions. Additionally, she is committed to raising awareness about the Sikh faith and who Sikh Americans are within her community and beyond. To support this cause, she has been actively involved in the creation of several educational resources. Therefore, through this internship with Kaur Foundation, Kareena is excited to be collaborating with other passionate young individuals who are also eager about furthering the same objective. Apart from this internship, she is looking forward to traveling to Canada and spending quality time with her cousins during the summer.

Shani is a dedicated UX designer with expertise in EdTech and a deep interest in climate, and health. During this internship, she is hoping to effectively incorporate aspects of Sikhi into the redesign of the Kaur Foundation website in a respectful and authentic way and actively contribute to discussions about the content related to Sikhi on the website. Shani is excited about the opportunity to apply and develop her UX design skills in a meaningful and impactful way.
